The JCCEO Home Weatherization Program weatherizes homes to make them more energy efficient, cooler in the summer, and warmer in the winter. Steps to lower your gas and electric bills through home weatherization can include repair or replacement of windows and doors, caulking, weather stripping, and/or adding ceiling insulation. Low-income residents whose homes are selected for this program can use their utility savings for other critical needs.
Proof of annual household income, home ownership, other information, and participation in home weatherization counseling are required of all applicants. Application can be made by calling 205-212-9603 to make an appointment.
Addtional funding for Home Weatherization was included in the Federal stimulus budget, significantly increasing the number of homes that will be weatherized in Jefferson County during the next three years.
** Federal Poverty Guidelines are determined each year. For 2009, the poverty level for a family of four is $22,050 (i.e. LIHEAP eligibility for four is $38,587; eligibility for ABC Trust and Weatherization for a family of four is $44,100).
